3.52 m33-4 ------> 3.71 M33

Hey guys I have successfully flashed my psp from 1.5 all the way to 3.71 M33, but when i try to do it from scratch (1.5) on my friends psp i keep getting "this program requires 3.52 m33-3 or higher to run" and then the damn thing restarts. I know i have 3.52 M33-4 installed (it says that is my firmware version in system info) and everything else is working fine...but the goddammed thing just refuses to run the 3.71 m33 firmware. Any idea why?

Go into recovery mode and change your kernel to 1.50 then run the 3.71 m33 updater.
